Restoring Survivors of Human Trafficking
Abolitionist U
Abo U is our 10-week class, sponsored by a generous grant from the Women’s Fund of Central Ohio, where men and women learn, explore, and decide how they would like to get involved locally as activists against human trafficking. From the graduates, female mentors are identified to advocate for and to walk hand-in-hand with the CATCH women as they move from prostitute to HT survivor, men are encouraged to help reduce demand, and everyone learns how to speak out to fight HT in the U.S. and on a global level. Abo U has three tracks of engagement: 1) the Bloom! Mentorship Program (for women only); 2) Men’s Abolitionist Group; 3) Becoming a Voicebox for Change.
Doma’s goal is to offer participants various ways to get involved, offering practical methods to affect change in Columbus and to eradicate HT and sexual exploitation. Built into the Abolitionist U is a series of group projects requiring participants to plan and organize local community (grass roots) awareness campaigns.
Abolitionist U not only supports a specific subculture of women, but also helps change the community from within. Doma stands in solidarity with women who are recovering from abuse, addiction, and life on the streets, and who have paid dearly for a culture that still buys and sells women.
Our first class went great! We had the most wonderful abolitionist speakers–from Gracehaven House, CATCH court, CORRC and beyond. Students read amazing books, created great projects, flyered in their communities, learned to do Street Outreach–it was a cacophony of abolition, truly. Next class dates are TBD, but we will know soon! If you have any questions or wish to get involved right away, email info@domaconnection.org.
